ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the effect for stroke(cerebral infarction)at acute stage intervened by traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) clinical pathway. Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out in the patients before and after intervention by TCM clinical pathway during the year of 2013-2016. The outcomes included the entrance rate, completion percentage, aberration rate, severity, hospitalization time, and hospitalization fee as well as functional prognosis 30 d after discharge. Results A total of 792 cases was included,241 cases admitted in the year of 2013, 191 in the year of 2014, 135 in the year of 2015, and 225 in the year of 2016. In the year of 2014-2016,the entrance rate, completion percentage, hospitalization time, hospitalization fee, critical case percentage, and gender constituent ratio were steadily(P > 0.05). Modified Rankin Scale(mRS)for short-term functional prognosis mRS 0 ~ 2 percentage and aberration rate in the year of 2016 were superior to those in the year of 2014 and 2015(P < 0.05). Functional improvement on discharge day 30 in the year of 2014-2016 was superior to that in the year of 2013(P < 0.05). The hospitalization time and hospitalization fee in the year of 2014-2016 were a liffle higher than those in the year of 2013(P < 0.05), showing no obvious increase. Conclusion The application of TCM clinical pathway can make the diagnosis and treatment procedure of stroke at acute stage standardized, enhance the therapeutic effect, achieve or even exceed the goal of manage scheme.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of Vaccinium uliginosum L., (VU) on the electroretinogram (ERG) and retinal pathological changes in rabbits after light-induced damage.

METHODSTwenty-eight Chinchilla rabbits were randomly divided into four groups: administration beforehand (A), administration after injury (B), light injury without administration (C), and blank (D) groups. After a 4-week administration of VU homogenate at 4.8 g/(kg·d) once a day in group A, ERG in groups A, B and C were recorded according to the standards set by the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV). Except for group D, the groups were then exposed to strong light. Just after that, group A stopped receiving VU treatment and group B started to receive it. Then ERGs in all groups were recorded after 1 day, 1 week, and 2 weeks. Throughout the whole process groups which were not fed with VU were fed with normal saline. Finally, the tissues and structures of all the groups were observed and the thickness of the outer nuclear layers (ONL) was measured.

RESULTS(1) After 4-week feeding with VU, the latency time of ERG in group A became shorter than those in the other groups and the amplitude increased. After being exposed to strong light, the latency time lengthened and amplitude decreased in all the injury groups, but comparing at each time point, the measured values in group A were better than those in group C. With the accumulation of VU, the ERG in group B improved, and finally, all of the detected values became better than those in group C. (2) Retinae in group D were normal in histology and the layers were in order but those in group C became disarranged. The injuries in groups A and B were minor compared with those in group C. The thickness of the ONL in group C was significantly thinner than in the other groups (P=0.000), and that in groups A and B was thicker than that in group C, although thinner than in group D. That in group A was thicker than in group B.

CONCLUSIONSVU can relieve the injury to rabbit retinae exposed to normal day and night rhythm, alleviate the harm caused by light when used beforehand, and repair the light damage to the retina.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, membrane current properties of the fully-grown oocytes from toad, Bufo bufo gargarizans, were studied by using two-microelectrode voltage clamp technique. Axion of adult female toad was destroyed, and then ovarian lobes containing oocytes in stage I to VI were removed and incubated in Ca(2+)-free ND96 solution with collagenase (1.5 mg/ml) for 1 h. Subsequently, the oocytes were washed in Ca(2+)-free ND96 solution for 10 min to completely remove the follicular layer. For the experiments only the oocytes in stage V and VI were selected and used during 1 to 5 d. The membrane was depolarized from a holding potential of -80 mV to +60 mV in 10 mV step. It was found that a sustained outward current was elicited by depolarization. Potassium channel blockers (tetraethylammonium chloride, TEA, 10 mmol/L and 4-aminopyridine, 4-AP, 10 mmol/L) reduced the outward current to (23.4+/-0.72)% of the maximum. However, further addition of chloride channel blocker (5-nitro-2, 3-phenypropylamino benzoate, NPPB, 30 micromol/L) could almost completely block the outward current to (2.1+/-0.08)% of the maximum. In the presence of TEA and 4-AP, removal of extracellular Ca(2+) or adding verapamil (40 micromol/L), could also reduce the outward current to (2.2+/-0.04) % and (3.1+/-0.15) % of the maximum, respectively. It is concluded that calcium-dependent chloride channels exist in plasma membrane of Bufo bufo gargarizans oocytes, besides potassium channels.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the microvessel counts and the expressions of interleukin-8 (IL-8), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and macrophage inflammatory protein-1 ( MIP-1) alpha mRNA in the pathological scar tissues.@*METHODS@#Immunohistochemical method of avidin-biotin complex was used for microvessel counts on the routinely formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded sections of specimens of hypertrophic scars, keloids, normal skin, and surgical scar, and in situ hybridization for the expressions of IL-8, MCP-1, MIP-1alpha mRNA.@*RESULTS@#The microvessel counts as well as the positive rates and the scorings of IL-8, MCP-1, and MIP-1alpha mRNA were significantly higher in pathological scars than those in the normal skin and surgical scar (all P < 0.05). The microvessel counts were significantly higher in the positive cases of IL-8, MCP-1 and MIP-1alpha mRNA than those in the negative ones (P < 0.05). The close positive correlations were found among the microvessel counts and the expressive scorings of 3 factors (P < 0.05). The close positive correlations were also found among the expressive scorings of IL-8, MCP-1, and MIP-1alpha mRNA in pathological scars. Microvessel counts were significantly higher in hypertrophic scars with the course less than 1 year than those with the course more than 1 year.@*CONCLUSION@#IL-8, MCP-1 and MIP-1alpha play important roles in promoting the neovascularization of pathological scars.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the beagles' pulp response following direct pulp capping with Clearfil SE BOND (SB).

METHODS130 sound teeth were used. 120 had their pulps mechanically exposed and were divided in two groups. In group A, teeth were capped with SB. In group B, teeth were capped with calcium hydroxide (CH). The left 10 teeth were used as control. After 7, 30 and 90 days, the teeth were extracted and processed for light microscopical examination.

RESULTSIn 7 day observation period, inflammatory reaction in SB group was slighter than that of CH group, but the difference was statistical insignificant. In the 30 day and 90 day observation period, inflammatory reaction was slight in both groups, but specimens with dentin bridge formation was significantly less in SB group than in CH group (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONSB showed acceptable biocompatibility with pulp, but its ability to induce hard tissue barrier on pulp exposure is weaker than CH.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo estimate the related factors and prophylactic measures of endodontic interappointment emergencies (EIE).

METHODSThe clinical cases were divided into three groups. Cases in the routine group were treated according to the routine procedures of root canal therapy. Cases in the medicament group took dexamethasone tablets after the instrumentation. Root canals in the drainage group were prepared at the first visit and had been left open for two or three days. The related factors were recorded. The incidences and flare-up index (FUI) value of EIE were statistically analyzed.

RESULTSThe EIE incidence of the routine group was 19.1%. The EIE incidence and FUI value of the overinstrumented teeth were significantly higher than those of other teeth (P < 0.05). EIE were not significantly related to the age, gender, tooth location and pathosis of the pulpal and periapical tissue (P > 0.05). The FUI value of the medicament group was significantly lower than that of the routine group (P < 0.05). Less severe EIE occurred in the cases of the drainage group than those of the control group (P > 0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe occurrence of EIE was significantly related to overinstrumentation. Taking dexamethasone may relieve EIE.
